The day all STAYs have been waiting for has finally arrived! After a painfully long (118 days to be exact) hiatus, Hwang Hyunjin – the main dancer and lead rapper of Stray Kids – is finally back. On February 22nd this year, Hyunjin had been faced with bullying accusations and his indefinite hiatus was announced by his agency, JYP Entertainment, after issuing an official apology. Fans were devastated by this news and kept trending hashtags like #HyunjinComeBack, #JypExplain and #WhereIsHyunjin in order to demand an explanation from the agency regarding Hyunjin. After Stray Kids won MNET’s Kingdom (a survival show between six K-pop boy groups), fans congratulated the group and also said that the crown belongs to Hyunjin as well even though he could only participate in one performance of the competition due to his hiatus.

Stray Kids surprised STAYs on June 25th by dropping the music video of Mixtape: OH at 12 am KST. While it seemed like a normal song and music video to fans at first, they were pleasantly surprised when they saw Hyunjin in the first verse itself. The music video shows all members Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin alone, reminiscing their old memories, sitting in different places (Han at a bus stop, Felix at a library, Changbin at the back of a bus, etc.) and looking rather gloomy. Despite the sad undertones of the song and music video, Mixtape: OH brought back cheerful and celebratory vibes within the fans.

STAYs were even more delighted to see that the Stray Kids logo (shown at the end of the music video) has been changed to Hyunjin’s handwriting and the ‘S’ is purposely written in a way to look like an ‘8’ as well, signifying the importance of OT8.

Soon after the release, fans started trending #Hyunjin, #HYUNJINCOMEBACK, #HE’SBACK on Twitter since they were just so delighted. On the same day as the MV release, JYP Entertainment posted a statement saying that Hyunjin will officially resume his activities with the group from July and that he has been spending his time during the hiatus reflecting on his actions and participating in volunteer work. From February to June, Hwang Hyunjin had been gone for almost four months but fans have not forgotten him and June 25th will be remembered as the day Stray Kids become OT8 again.
