Love stories can give a run for money to any other genre in Bollywood. From the happy-ending types to the tragic types, you’ve watched many of them by now. But love story blended with time travel? Nitya Mehra’s ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ is something original in that aspect.

So the film kickstarts with an adorable couple Jay (Sidharth Malhotra) and Diya (Katrina Kaif) deciding upon the future of their relationship. Jay has exceptionally high career aspirations and wants to settle abroad while Diya isn’t up for it. A dejected Jay wants to dismiss the wedding and go for his dreams. This leads to an argument on their wedding eve and BOOM! The time travel starts.

Over two and a half hours, Jay aka Sidharth is taken through a series of flashbacks. He finds himself giving no damn to his personal space and relationships resulting in a failed son, husband and father. With only work and no family, the future seems deadly to him and now he is ready to reset his priorities. But is it even possible to change what fate has in store for you? To find out, you got to watch.

There’s something very special about the story. Without preaching philosophy, it paints how loneliness one day would look like, how dreadful a life without company could look like. It tells you how important love is and how crucial it is to stick to your dear ones through thick and thin. If you think you can win over your loneliness with mere money and academic achievements, ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ is an eye-opener for you.

Before Nitya Mehra, no one else probably imagined Sidharth and Katrina could play a couple. They can, and they have pulled it off well!

Performance wise, Sidharth is decent and Katrina is really good, sans her Hindi. We have given up on that! Sarika and Sayani Gupta have not-so-big but significant roles and they’re good. Ram Kapoor ji, aap ne toh dil hi jit liya!

Coming to technical aspects, the cinematography looks really neat. You’ve grooved over ‘Kala Chashma’ over a hundred times now, and other tracks topping the charts too. However, the most beautiful one comes as a surprise track. ‘Dariya’ sung by Arko Pravo Mukherjee comes at a time when a lost soul has again found colours in life and looks at the world with amused eyes; everything new! The film carries decent background score and a screenplay which is not very scattered.

However, do not look for philosophical touches in the film for it is not a film which stirs you inside. It rather is a sweet realisation which every soul would stumble upon, once in life.

‘Baar Baar Dekho’, as a one-time watch, should crack through your weekend plans this time!
