According to the CBFC certification details, Toxic was approved by the Bengaluru regional office on August 13, 2026. The certificate indicates that the film’s language is Kannada, and its certified length is 194.12 metres. The movie will hit screens on August 26.

The official plot summary describes the film as follows: “A gangster navigates the complexities of loyalty, morality, and the struggle for personal redemption in a post-independence Goa where violence and jealousy reign. With its atmospheric world, brutal action sequences, and morally conflicted characters, the film explores the price one must pay for love and for finding redemption amidst the darkness.”

Toxic Controversy

The multilingual film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has sparked controversy over its bold intimate scenes, stylised violence, and portrayal of women. The initial teaser, featuring a graphic intimate scene near a cemetery, prompted online debates. A formal complaint from the women’s wing of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) labelled the content obscene. It mentioned that it is harmful to minors and disrespectful to cultural values. The Karnataka State Women’s Commission requested the CBFC to review the material.

Director Geetu Mohandas responded to criticism with a social media post addressing discussions around female pleasure and systemic portrayals. The film’s trailer and promotional tracks also drew targeted trolling. It was against Kiara Advani for performing intimate scenes after marriage, raising issues of double standards compared to male actors. Yash defended Kiara, praising her professionalism. Her co-star Nayanthara spoke out against the negativity.
