In an exclusive chat, Vijayendra Kumeria opened up on Aapki Nazron Ne Samjha, playing a visually impaired guy, chemistry with co-star Richa Rathore and more. Over to him:

1. How did you prepare for playing Darsh Raval in Aapki Nazron Ne Samjha?

As soon as I got finalized for this, I started working on it, watching some movies, picking up the body language. The briefing of the character was very clear to me. So, it was not very difficult for me to get into the skin of the character. But, my only concern was that I should look like the character, what he is. He is a visually impaired guy, so that is something I had to work on.

2. Did you face any difficulties or challenges in playing a visually impaired person?

I did. It becomes difficult that you’re playing a visually impaired guy, so eyes are open and if there’s any movement in front of the eyes. Then you get a little distracted. So, that is very difficult to control. So, it was a little tough, but now the whole cast and crew know that when I have a shot they avoid any disturbances. Also, we stop the shot there and there, if we know we’re going wrong somewhere.

3. Did you take any inspiration from Bollywood movies or books?

Yes, I actually watched a few movies. I watched the yesteryear classic ‘Sparsh’ where Nasserudinn Shah plays the lead role, I also caught up on a Scent of a Woman, and many other movies. Before I got the role, I had already watched many movies relating to the topic. I had an idea of the body language that I should carry, but for the character, I like to put my own essence. I did not want to carry anybody, because the character is completely different.

4. Tell us something about your bond and chemistry with co-star Richa Rathore…

The chemistry came very organically. We first did a mock shoot, before we actually started shooting for the show properly. Our chemistry went bang on, we did the scene in one go. She is a good actor and very hard working. We did not have to put in a lot of effort and it will surely be felt onscreen. We haven’t done many scenes until now, because the story is such. But, I’m sure viewers will like our chemistry.

5. Have you watched the original Bengali show ‘Sanjher Baati?’

There is no harm in making remakes. If they are presented in a new and fresh way, there’s absolutely no problem. Yes, I watched one episode of the original show (Sanjher Baati) just for the basic look and feel. So, in the first episode, I got a gist of it, but I did not want to watch it again or perhaps watch more episodes, because that might affect my approach towards the character. I wanted to do it my way. Of course, the actors in that show have done a great job, but I did not want to reflect the same thing

6. Compliments received after the promo release of Aapki Nazron Ne Samjha..

The common reaction of every fan or friend who has watched the promo of Aapki Nazron Ne Samjha is that they liked it. They found it very promising and are looking forward to it. They thought the promo is very simple yet effective. For me individually, people are saying that I really deserved such a strong story and I was the right choice for this character. And this really helps to up the confidence.
