Veteran actor Chandrashekhar breathed his last on Wednesday due to age-related ailments. He was 98. The veteran actor was best known for playing the role of Arya Sumant in Ramanand Sagar’s popular mythological show, Ramayan.

Chandrashekhar kickstarted his career as a junior artist and appeared in over 250 films in his illustrious career. He has films like Surang, Mastana, Basant Bahar, Shakti, Disco Dancer, Sharaabi & Elaan-E-Jung to his credit.

According to the PTI report, the veteran actor died due to age-related ailments around 7 am on Wednesday (June 16). He breathed his last at his residence. “He passed away in his sleep in the presence of family… the way he wanted. He had no health issues, it was just his age. He lived a good life,” the veteran actor’s son, Ashok Shekhar, told the news agency.

Chandrasekhar’s funeral will take place at Juhu’s Pawan Hans in the evening. Mourning the veteran actor’s demise, his Ramayan co-star Arun Govil tweeted in Hindi, “Shri Chandrashekhar ji, who played the character of Mahamantri Sumantra in Ramayana, has passed away today. May they get peace and salvation, this is my prayer to Ram ji. Sir, I will miss you very much.”

Apart from acting, Chandrashekhar has also made his directorial debut with Cha Cha Cha (1964) featuring Helen in the lead role. Chandrashekhar’s son Ashok Shekhar is a known television producer. Whereas popular TV actor Shakti Arora is the grandson of the late actor.
