Owing to the Coronavirus scare, the central government has issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the film and television industry to follow if they want to resume the shooting of their projects. According to these SOPs, actors above 65 years of age are allowed to resume shoot considering the fact that they are more prone to contract the deadly Coronavirus.

Reacting on these new set of rules and restrictions, National Award-winning and veteran actress Surekha Sikri has said that the decision is unfair.

As per the new guidelines, actors below the age of 10 and above the age of 65 cannot be present on the sets. Reacting on this new rule, Surekha told SpotBoyE, “It’s a very unfair decision. They haven’t given a thought to practical thoughts. Since this lockdown has started I have not been able to work for many months. Due to which I am unable to generate any income for myself or my family. As a result of this, there is a complete stop on all my shooting. There were offers and people wanted to shoot with me but I couldn’t give my time or confirm anything.”

The ‘Balika Vadhu’ actress further added, “I want to stick with my own platform. And this rule is making it impossible for me to be Atma Nirbhar. It cancels all my effort to be Atma Nirbhar (independent). It violates my right to work and support my family. My health is all fine and I don’t mind stepping out shooting my projects.”

Earlier, actor Kanwaljit Singh lashing out at these restrictions had told Film Information, “So what do actors like me do? Hang up our boots? How can I be asked not to work? I had decided that I won’t travel daily from home to Mira Road and back but will rather stay there with my staff, for which I had even rented a place.”

Several senior actors have expressed their displeasure over the government’s restrictions stating that not everybody can afford the privilege of staying at home amidst the financial crisis.
