TMKOC star Munmun Dutta faces trouble for using casteist slur in video; Mumbai Police files an FIR against her

Trouble for Munmun Dutta has increased, as now an FIR has been registered against her in Mumbai. Yes, according to the latest reports, the Mumbai Police has filed an FIR against Munmun Dutta for derogatory comments against a community. Things took an unexpected turn for the Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah actress when she apparently used a casteist slur in her video on social media.

Munmun in the viral video is heard using the word ‘bhangi’ which triggered a massive outburst on the internet. Netizens slammed her for defaming and derogating the community. After the backlash, Munmun went on to apologise for unintentionally hurting people’s sentiments. A few weeks ago, an FIR was lodged against Munmun in Haryana first, and how she is facing trouble in Mumbai too.

According to a report in Indian Express, a police officer sadid, “The case against Dutta was registered on May 26 based on a complaint lodged by Naresh Bohit (40), a community leader and a worker of a political party, at Goregaon police station on May 12.” He added, “Since the actor resides in Amboli police station limits, the complaint application was forwarded to that police station.” However, after the investigation, the FIR against her was filed on Wednesday.

The actress has been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 295(A) (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and section 3 of the Prevention of Atrocities against SC/ST Act.

Meanwhile, seeking forgiveness from the people, Munmun had issued a public apology on her social media handles. “It was never said with the intent to insult, intimidate, humiliate or hurt anyone’s feelings. Because of my language barrier, I was genuinely misinformed about the meaning of the word,” she wrote in her apology statement.
