One Man, Two Biopics: After SS Rajamouli-Jr NTR, Aamir Khan-Rajkumar Hirani To Make Film On ‘Father Of Indian Cinema’ Dadasaheb Phalke

Dadasaheb Phalke is considered the ‘Father of Indian cinema’ and the highest film award given to anyone in this country by the Government of India is given in his memory. Hence it’s not surprising that a film will be made on his life and his contribution to Indian Cinema. However, as per latest reports, not one but two films will be made on the Indian producer-director-screenwriter, soon.

After reports of Jr NTR all set to play Phalke In Made In India – a film by SS Rajamouli, made the headlines, now news of Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani also making a similar project have surface.

Dadasaheb Phalke Biopic – Bollywood vs Tollywood?

Set against the backdrop of India’s Independence struggle, Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani’s story unfolds an extraordinary journey of an artist, who from scratch and against all odds, goes on to give birth to the largest indigenous film industry in the world.

This film is slated to go on floors in October 2025, with Khan beginning preparing for his part soon after the release of Sitaare Zameen Par. VFX studios from LA has already created AI designs for the era and period of the film. Reportedly, Rajkumar Hirani with Abhijat Joshi and two other writers – Hindukush Bharadwaj and Avishkar Bharadwaj, have been working on this script for the last 4 years.

Dadasaheb Phalke’s grandson, Chandrashekhar Srikrishna Pusalkar has been supportive of the project and has provided major anecdotes from Dadasaheb Phalke’s life.

Talking about the Tollywood biopic on the life of Dadasaheb Phalke – Made In India, the announcement trailer was unveiled in September 2023. Directed by SS Rajamouli, the movie, which is slated for a Pan-India release, is being produced by Varun Gupta of Max Studios and SS Karthikeya of Showing Business. Rajamouli, Karthikeya, and Gupta have been diligently working on the script since the announcement, and they have now completed a draft.
