Desi girl Priyanka Chopra’s production company Purple Pebble Pictures produces small budget regional films thereby promoting new talent by providing them with a platform. Priyanka’s Marathi film ‘Ventilator’ even bagged three National Awards in 2016.

Now, another Bollywood star, Khiladi Akshay Kumar is all set to venture into Marathi cinema. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Akshay will be presenting upcoming Marathi film ‘Chumbak’ that features lyricist-singer-actor Swanand Kirkire.

An elated Swanand told Mirror, “It was a coincidence that I co-wrote ‘Padman’ with R Balki (Akshay had played the lead and also produced the film). The producer of our Marathi film, Naren Kumar, was the executive producer on another Akshay starrer, ‘Jolly LLB’, and happened to show our film to him. Akshay loved it. As soon as I finished ‘Padman’, I started shooting for ‘Chumbak’ and had no idea we would be collaborating again so soon. It’s great that Akshay is lending his name to the film.” (Also Read: Karan Johar’s next starring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor to be based on Surrogacy?)

Reportedly, ‘Chumbak’ is a journey of a child and a 45-year-old man played by Swanand. The makers of the film will be introducing two new actors — Sahil Jadhav and Sangram Desai with this film.

It’s good that our B-town stars are lending their support to this regional content-driven cinema and thereby creating awareness about them.
