Asha Parekh is one of the highly celebrated actresses in the Hindi film industry. The Padma Shri Awardee was the highest-paid actress of her time and also one of the most successful actresses of 60s-70s.

The beautiful actress is still remembered for roles in films like ‘Kati Patang’, ‘Love In Tokyo’ and ‘Teesri Manzil’ to name a few. Despite being one of the most loved actresses and romancing almost all the superstars on the silver screen, Asha in real life chose to remain unmarried. In a recent interview, the veteran actress opened up about being in love with Aamir Khan’s filmmaker uncle Nasir Hussain. Asha also shared why she couldn’t marry Nasir.

In an interview with Verve magazine, Parekh admitted being in love with director Nasir Husain, who was already married. The actress didn’t want to be a home breaker and hence she decided against pursuing her love for the director. “You are hurting somebody, and it gets so much worse if children are involved — they grow up with all sorts of insecurities. If you think your marriage isn’t going to work out, don’t produce children because you end up muddling their idea of love. I know I admitted to being in love with Nasir Hussain in The Hit Girl, but as much as I loved him, I could never consider breaking up his family and traumatising his children. It was far simpler and satisfying to be on my own,” shared the ‘Dil Deke Dekho’ actress. Asha had worked with Nasir in more than six films.

Parekh’s mother did try to arrange for a match for her, and recalling one such incident, the actress revealed, “I did come very close to tying the knot once with a professor from the US. I was visiting him and we were in a cafe at 2 a.m., when he turned to me and nonchalantly said, ‘I have a girlfriend and you’ve come in the way’. It completely caught me off guard. In a way, that was the final straw for me in this whole wedding business.”

The veteran actress credited her friends as her constant companion and how she chose to travel the world instead of focusing on the male attention that she was showered with at that time. Asha’s close friends are Helen and Waheeda Rehman. They all still hang out together. Recently they were snapped at Helen’s birthday celebration.
