Owing to the relentless monsoon rains since mid-July, Assam is currently suffering one of its worst floods to date. Over the last couple of days, several Bollywood stars have taken to social media and urged their fans to support the victims of the devastating floods in Assam. While the death toll now rises to 75, with over 3.32 lakh people being affected by the deluge, Alia Bhatt has now voiced her concerns.

Deeply disturbed by the situation, the ‘Alpha’ actress not only highlighted the issue but also requested her fans/audience to help all those impacted by the disaster. She added that despite the floods occurring every year, the nature of the crisis “still catches us off guard”. Read on to know all she said.

Alia Bhatt Voices Concern Over Assam Floods, Request Immediate Aid

Late Tuesday evening, Alia Bhatt took to her Instagram Stories and shared a considerably long note voicing concern over the devastating floods in Assam. Calling for immediate relief efforts, she wrote, “Right now, floods are affecting so many parts of our country with Assam being among the hardest hit, facing an incredibly challenging time. More than 60 lives have been lost. Lakhs of people have been displaced. Entire families have lost their homes, their land, their livestock… and for some, even the people they love. It happens every year and it still catches us off guard.”

Alia further added, “Assam needs immediate relief right now, and it’ll need support for the long road to recovery. If you’ve been wondering how you can help, I’ll be sharing a few ways we can support relief efforts over the next few days, through organisations working on the ground.” She concluded her note with the hashtag, “#CircleOfHope”.

Bollywood Comes Out In Support Of Assam Flood Victims

Besides Alia Bhatt, Salman Khan, Bhumi Pednekar, Adah Sharma, Guru Randhawa, Raashii Khanna and others have been using their platform to raise awareness about the crisis in Assam. As per reprots, Salman – who is currently busy filming director Vamshi Paidipally’s upcoming untitled project in Mumbai, is actively coordinating relief efforts through his fan club and charitable organisation, Being Human.

A source close to the actor told a leading publication that Khan personally reached out to the Salman Khan Fan Club in Assam to plan the relief work. The multi-phase aid will see Being Human and SKFC Assam partnering to distribute ready-to-eat food packets in Sivasagar, with supplies being transported from Guwahati. Each packet will reportedly contain biscuits, jaggery, poha, puffed rice, bread, cheese and jam.
