About The Incident
According to a Hindustan Times report, the driver and conductor of a sleeper bus have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a 16-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh after misleading her into boarding the vehicle in Greater Noida earlier this month, Delhi Police confirmed on Monday. The accused reportedly abandoned the teenager near Kashmere Gate after driving her across the Delhi-NCR region.
The case has sparked a jurisdictional dispute, with Uttar Pradesh Police claiming that Delhi Police failed to inform them about the incident, despite it occurring within the Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate. Delhi Police explained that the Class 11 student from Mainpuri had left her home on August 3 without informing her parents after a scolding from her mother over her studies. She was en route to her cousin’s house in Sector 63, Noida, when she got stranded at Pari Chowk after it became dark and heavy rain began. Noticing a bus approaching, she signalled the driver to stop, and the conductor allegedly told her it was headed toward Sector 63, prompting her to board. According to police, there were no other passengers on the bus at that time.
Once the bus started moving, the conductor began behaving inappropriately, and both the conductor and driver allegedly sexually assaulted her inside the moving vehicle. When she resisted, they reportedly threatened to kill her, police said.
