Box-Office Report: ‘Student of The Year 2’ becomes the second highest opener of Tiger Shroff’s career

Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions launched two newbies Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria with their latest film ‘Student of The Year 2’ (SOTY 2). The film was headlined by Tiger Shroff. Directed by Punit Malhotra, ‘SOTY 2’ was the second instalment in KJo’s hit franchise which earlier launched Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra. Though the film was panned by the critics as well as the audience, however, it minted around 12.06 Crore approx on its first day at the box-office.

Film critic and trade analyst, Taran Adarsh took to the micro-blogging site Twitter and wrote, “SOTY 2 puts up a fairly good total on Day 1”.

The film has become Tiger’s career’s second highest opening film after ‘Baaghi 2’ which minted around 25.10 cr on its day 1.

The analyst also wrote that the business of ‘SOTY2’ slowed down during the evening shows. After mostly receiving negative reviews, now it has to be seen how much the film earns in its first weekend.

From the lead actor’s acting skills to the film’s direction, storyline, narration almost everything has been severely criticized by the critics. If the film fails to keep the cash registers ringing at the box office, then perhaps it will turn out to be the second biggest flop of Dharma Productions after the debacle of ‘Kalank’.
