Writer Chetan Bhagat, on whose book ‘Five Point Someone’ Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ‘3 Idiots’ was based, has recently alleged that the director drove him close to suicide by being unfair to him over writing credits for the film.

Chetan also claimed that Chopra publicly bullied him and also collected all the Best Story awards.

The writer started off by asking all the ‘elitist and snob’ critics to write sensibly as Sushant Singh Rajput’s last film ‘Dil Bechara’ is releasing this Friday. “Sushant’s last film releases this week. I want to tell the snob and elitist critics right now, write sensibly. Don’t act over smart. Don’t write rubbish. Be fair and sensible. Don’t try your dirty tricks. You have ruined enough lives. Now stop. We’ll be watching,” Chetan tweeted.

Now replying to Chetan’s tweet, senior journalist and film critic Anupama Chopra wrote, “Each time you think the discourse can’t get lower, it does (sic).”

Hitting back at Anupama who is married to ‘3 Idiots’ director Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Chetan wrote, “Ma’am, when your husband publicly bullied me, shamelessly collected all the best story awards, tried denying me credit for my story and drove me close to suicide, and you just watched, where was your discourse?(sic).”

For the unversed, ‘3 Idiots’ that released in 2009 was based on Chetan’s book. It starred Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Kareena Kapoor.

The film swept all the awards and went on to become a huge success. While Chetan and his book were credited in the film’s end credits, he was unhappy for not being credited for the story. Raju Hirani and writer Abhijat Joshi were credited for the story and screenplay.

Bhagat had a public spat with the makers of ‘3 Idiots’. Back then Hirani had even clarified that as per their contract Chetan was given due credit. Later the writer had said that he is moving on and dropping the matter altogether.

It was only yesterday when he once again targeted Vidhu.
