Dadasaheb Phalke’s Grandson Opposes SS Rajamouli’s Biopic, Urges Aamir Khan To Take The Lead

Bollywood’s powerhouse duo Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani recently announced they are collaborating on a biopic about Dadasaheb Phalke. Interestingly, SS Rajamouli also had plans to make a similar project with Jr NTR portraying the ‘father of Indian cinema.’ However, in a surprising development, Phalke’s grandson Chandrashekhar Srikrishna Pusalkar has raised objections to SS Rajamouli’s version and has made it clear he supports only Aamir Khan’s team moving forward.

In an interview with Amar Ujala, Pusalkar stated, “Rajamouli never contacted me for the biopic. I have been hearing discussions about Rajamouli’s project, but he never contacted me for it. No one spoke to me on behalf of Rajamouli. If someone is making a film on Phalke ji, then at least the family should be talked to. It should not happen that the family is ignored. The family is the real knower, only they can tell the right stories.”

On the other hand, Aamir’s team kept him informed throughout the process. Pusalkar now prefers that Aamir and Hirani proceed with the biopic, rather than Rajamouli. “Aamir-Hirani’s team worked hard to gain trust. Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani’s project was a surprise for me too. I just got to know that they have tied up, but their assistant producer, Hindukush Bhardwaj, has been in touch with me for the last three years. He used to come to meet me repeatedly, conduct research, and ask for details. I told him clearly—’ you guys are working honestly, you go ahead, I have no objection,'” he explained.

Phalke’s grandson expressed his full trust in Aamir and Hirani, saying, “Aamir is very serious, he works with complete honesty. If Aamir Khan is doing this role then I am very happy because Aamir Khan is a very serious fellow. Whatever work he does, he does it with complete honesty. Along with him, there is also a director like Rajkumar Hirani, who has done excellent work in the past. So I am confident that this team will present Phalke ji’s story with respect.” He also revealed that their assistant producer consulted me at every stage over the past few years, adding, “They kept the family involved and worked hard to gain their trust.”

Rajamouli has yet to respond to these comments. Meanwhile, few days back Aamir Khan released the trailer of Sitaare Zameen Par.
