Lata Mangeshkar passed away at the age of 92 on February 6. She was fondly called the Nightingale of India and was one of the most celebrated singers in the nation. Lata Mangeshkar and Dharmendra shared a special bond which is why the Apne actor was shattered so much he could not make it to the funeral.

In a recent interview, Dharmendra recalled he would talk a lot with Mangeshkar in the last few years. He also felt that she wanted to run away from loneliness in her last years. The Dharamveer actor also recalled when Lata Mangeshkar sang Anpadh – Aap Ki Nazron Ne Samjha for his movie.

In an interview with Aaj Tak, Dharmendra recalled, “When I got to know that she would sing for me in Anpadh – Aap Ki Nazron Ne Samjha – I was ecstatic. I thought who should I tell. I wrote letters to everyone one that Lata Didi would sing for me. I went to Mehboob studio to see her sing. Years later, she said that when Dharmendra ji came to meet me he was wearing a beige shirt. We would talk a lot, especially in the last few years. it felt that she wanted to run away from loneliness.”

Dharmendra had shared a heartbreaking note after he learnt of Lata Mangeshkar’s demise. He took to his Twitter and wrote, “The whole world is sad, can’t believe you have left us!!! We will miss you Lata ji, pray for your soul, be in peace.”

Talking about not making it to the legendary singer’s funeral, “I was very uncomfortable and uneasy. I got ready not once but three times to go for Didi’s last rites yesterday. But every time, I pulled myself back. I didn’t want to see her leaving us. I was feeling very uncomfortable and uneasy after hearing the news of Lata Mangeshkar’s demise yesterday,” Dharmendra told TOI.
