You have Undekhi 2 releasing soon, you play DSP Ghosh in season one, which was appreciated and loved by all. What about the role that made you choose it?

It is a different genre. It’s a crime thriller and my character of DSP Ghosh is this righteous person. He has a lot of under layered past in his life, so, in that sense, it’s quite a multi-layered role, but a writer’s cop. This was a very positive character, so it was good for me after what I did in the series Criminal Justice. Because, when he (Ghosh) comes on screen, he comes with a lot of hope. So, it was quite good for me and I liked the character. I got hooked on to the character.

Anything you want to share about Undekhi 2?

Season 2 is the continuation of the story. Hope everyone likes it.

You have come a long way in your career. And finally, your performances are being appreciated. How do you feel about this love you are receiving from the audience?

My first film was Monsoon wedding. It has been a long way. There is never a shortcut. So, slowly with a little bit of recognition, jis recognition pe chalte (with that kind of recognition), I got pushed. So, Monsoon Wedding was my first film, then uske chalte kuch log mujhe janne lage (then with that film, the people got to know me). I started working more. Then, I had Anurag Kashyap’s movies in my life. So, significant films milte rahi aur thoda bohot kaam ke saath log appreciate karte gaye (I got significant films and the audience went on to appreciate my work).

OTT has widened chances for actors today. What are your thoughts on that?

So industry mein ek boom hai (There is a boom in the industry). OTT ke chalte industry mein ek boom hai (The boom is because of OTT platforms). Unko ache actors ki jaroorat hai toh mujhe kaam mil raha hai, toh ache roles mil rahe hai (They need good actors and so I am getting work, and some good roles). Ache roles mil rahe hai, isliye shayad kaam acha ho raha hai, khunki logon ko acha lag raha hai (Because we are getting good roles, that’s why there’s good work that’s happening, because the people like it).

Dibyendu added, “At the end of the day, it is the workflow that matters. It’s all about the quality of work, it’s all about the visibility factor. OTT sabse jyaada visible hai abhi aaj ke time mein (OTT is the most visible currently). People are watching OTT. There are many platforms, so many subscribers, world wide it has reachability. So, that is why, you are more confident, more work. So, it is quite positive. Because, you have great shows, great actors coming up, great team. So, there is a boom. And it is definitely helping so many creative people.

You have played the role of Victor in the movie Looop Lapeta, what about the character pushed you to take it?

When they approached me, they told me how its a remake of Run Lola Run. Run Lola Run is one of the classics that I have seen during my younger days, film festivals. I really wanted to do the character. So, when I met Akash Bhatia and he talked about the character of Victor. He showed me the look of Victor. Victor ka jo look tha, woh mujhe bohot hi pasand aaya (I loved the look of Victor). It’s very powerful, it’s very stylish. Immediately I was hooked on to the film. And the character was also quite different. The character has the look and the attitude of the 70s movie villains, but his approach is quite modern. He is the boss, he the Don, he’s the gang lord, but again, he is scared of cops, he is vulnerable also, and he is a chef also.

How was your experience working with Taapsee Pannu and Tahir Raj Bhasin?

Tahir ke saath mera ek scene tha (I had one scene with Tahir). It was nice working with him. Acha actor ke saath kaam karne me acha hi lagta hai (One always feels good to work with a good actor). Taapsee ke saath mera kuch kaam tha nahi (I had no scene with Taapsee). Last scene mein (In the last scene), I just meet both of them on my way. But ha, it was good fun.

Do you have any upcoming projects apart from Khuda Hafiz with Vidyut Jammwal?

There are a lot of upcoming movies. But, I cannot disclose details as of yet. Apart from Khuda Hafiz, Jamtara 2 is also going to come out. Gone Game 2 is also going to come up on Voot and even Rocket Boys 2.

With the Undekhi 2 releasing soon, will there be a season 3?

That I don’t know. It will be decided after the success of season 2. Kahani toh aage badh rahi hai (The story is moving forward), because it’s not a different story altogether. This is a story that started in the first season, and in the second season, it continues. Is season se dekhiye kahani kaha se kaha jaati hai, phir aapko pata chal jayega (With Undekhi 2, you can see where the story leads, then you’ll know).

Meanwhile, Dibyendu is awaiting the release of Undekhi 2. Produced by Applause Entertainment, the web series is all set to release on March 4.
