The trailer of the film left everyone asking for more and the songs have instantly made their way to everyone’s playlist. ‘Zero’s first song, ‘Mere Naam Tu’, a romantic ballad stayed with everyone. Later, the fun track ‘Issaqbaazi’ featuring Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan was loved by their fans.

Then came ‘Husn Parcham’, in which Katrina Kaif literally set the silver screen ablaze with her sensual and terrific dance moves. We met the lyricist of these songs – Irshad Kamil and asked him about his thought process behind writing these varied tracks.

Irshad revealed that his approach towards writing songs is very different from others. He first reads the script and then lives the characters, be it male or female before trying to look at a given situation from their perspective. Talking about the overtly romantic track, ‘Mere Naam Tu’, Irshad said,“When you live the character of Bauua Singh (Shah Rukh) and Aafia Yusufzai Bhinder (Anushka), the intensity of their character and romance took me to that line ‘Mere hi ghere mein ghoomegi har pal tu aise, Sooraj ke ghere me rehti hai dharti ye jaise’. Their love for each other is eternal. After all, subha sham toh kabhi khatam nahi hogi…”

In the ‘Issaqbaazi’ song, we see the friendly banter between Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan’s character. Throwing light on how he came up with the lyrics of this track, Irshad said, “As there are two superstars in this song, so I thought it should be either very poetic or very light but still very entertaining. So that’s how I came up with those lines. It’s a sweet banter between the two of them.”

Katrina Kaif’s ‘Husn Parcham’ song is already a rage among music lovers. The title of the song is a very new phrase. Revealing the idea behind using that term, Irshad said, “The way people boast about their achievements in the same way ‘Husn Parcham’ is about one’s beauty (husn ka zhanda lehra diya hai usne). Husn means beauty and parcham means flag. Aur jab Katrina Kaif ke husn ka parcham lehra gaya toh kaun tikega uske saamne? (Katrina’s beauty can mesmerise anyone)”

Well, we couldn’t agree with him more.

Irshad enjoyed writing songs for ‘Zero’ and is excited to see the audience’s response to the film. The film hits the silver screens tomorrow.
