EXCLUSIVE: Why it will be difficult for Kangana Ranaut to deliver with 'Manikarnika'!

Kangana Ranaut believes she is in a league of her own. While other heroines are still doing films with reigning superstars, Ms. Ranaut feels she doesn’t need any hero to back her up. Fair enough! But is her strategy working?

After a string of flops, the actress is all set to appear on celluloid as Jhansi Ki Rani in ‘Manikarnika’ that releases later this year. The shooting is complete and the post-production work on the film is currently underway. The film has been shot on a monumental canvas and has a lot of VFX involved.

A box office insider told us, “The makers have spent over Rs 80 crore on Manikarnika. It’s not even funny that they decided to spend so much money on Kangana. Even a film like ‘Simran’ made on 30-35 crore tanked without a trace. No matter how great the film is, it is almost impossible for the film to recover the money. It has to do a minimum Rs 150 crore business at the BO to break even.” (Also Read: In pics: Rajkummar and Kangana from the sets of ‘Mental Hai Kya’)

While ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ crossed the mark, ‘Manikarnika’ will find it difficult because of the genre. “This is no Baahubali. And period films don’t make great money. Above all, Kangana is no superstar. If she would have been, all her bad films too would have made decent money. So Kangana needs to reassess her choices now.”
