The legal dispute between producer Vashu Bhagnani and producer Ramesh Taurani over the use of iconic songs Chunnari Chunnari and Ishq Sona Hai in the upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai has now intensified further. After Bhagnani alleged copyright infringement and moved court over the recreated tracks, Taurani, Tips, and the film’s team have finally broken their silence with an official statement. The makers have called the allegations ‘baseless’ and accused Bhagnani of spreading misinformation in an attempt to affect the film’s release.
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Row: Ramesh Taurani And Team Break Silence
The controversy began after Pooja Entertainment objected to the remix versions of Chunnari Chunnari and Ishq Sona Hai used in the film. Both songs originally featured in Biwi No.1, directed by David Dhawan. Bhagnani reportedly approached the court, claiming intellectual property rights violations linked to the recreated songs.
The makers issued a detailed statement reacting strongly to the allegations. It read, “Recently, a series of baseless allegations have been made against us by Mr Vashu Bhagnani. It is amply clear to us that this is a smear campaign driven by personal vendetta, intended to derail the release of our film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.”
The statement further referred to Taurani and Bhagnani’s long professional history dating back to 1995. The makers claimed that Tips had earlier partnered with Bhagnani during Coolie No. 1, which went on to become a major commercial success.
“Our association with Mr Bhagnani dates back to 1995, when we generously offered him a 50 per cent partnership and a producer credit on a project for which we had laid out all the groundwork. Coolie No. 1 went on to become a massive box office hit and gave Mr Bhagnani a kick-start in the industry. Over the years, we continued to extend our heartfelt support and good wishes to him. It is out of respect for this long-standing relationship that we chose to remain silent until now,” the statement read.

However, the makers alleged that Bhagnani continued making public claims despite their silence. They also questioned his decision to file the legal complaint in Bihar instead of Mumbai. “However, Mr Bhagnani remains determined to spread misinformation via various platforms including social media. Suspiciously, he has also chosen to file a legal complaint in Kathihar court in Bihar – over 2000 kms away from Mumbai. He decided to take legal action against all associated with our film rather than engage in direct dialogue,” the statement added.
The team behind the film also firmly maintained that they legally own the rights to both songs at the centre of the controversy. “We are deeply disheartened and disappointed by Mr Bhagnani’s conduct. And urge the public to not pay heed to such targeted negativity. We maintain that we are the absolute and lawful owners of the songs Chunnari Chunnari and Ishq Sona Hai,” the makers stated.
Since the matter is now under legal consideration, the team confirmed that they would not issue further comments for now. “Since this matter is sub judice, this will be the only statement we shall be making at this time. We have full faith in the legal system of our country and are confident that justice will prevail,” the statement concluded.
Directed by David Dhawan, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai stars Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, and Mrunal Thakur in lead roles. Despite the ongoing controversy, the makers reiterated that the film will release in cinemas on June 5.
