Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s highly anticipated film Love & War, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal, has encountered a major setback following a tragic accident on its set. In the early hours of June 17, Chandradhari Singh Yadav, a 42-year-old carpenter working on the project, died after suffering a severe electric shock. The incident took place at Royal Pump Studio in Mumbai’s Film City, reportedly while Alia Bhatt was filming. Preliminary investigations suggest that a short circuit was the cause of the electrocution.
Love And War Worker Dies Due To Electrocution
Chandradhari Singh Yadav is survived by his wife and two young daughters. In response, Bhansali Productions announced a financial compensation of Rs 40 lakh to the grieving family. Following the tragedy, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has called on Bhansali’s production house to increase the compensation amount. While the current assistance package is Rs 40 lakh, FWICE is advocating for this to be raised to Rs 50 lakh to better support Yadav’s family. It is particularly to ensure his daughters’ education and future security.
FWICE President BN Tiwari emphasised the importance of prioritising the family’s long-term welfare. He also urged for immediate industry-wide safety improvements, including stricter safety measures on set and regulation of work hours. “We want the compensation to be Rs 50 lakh, considering his children are very young and will need support for their education. Additionally, we’ve called for safer working conditions and shorter shifts for crew members,” Tiwari told India Today. The federation has also requested that Bhansali’s production offer employment to Yadav’s wife. This will provide the family with a stable income source amid their grief.
Work Hours And Safety Concerns Highlighted
According to a Money Control report, Yadav had been working extremely long hours before the accident. FWICE General Secretary Ashok Dubey revealed that Yadav was on duty from 7 a.m. until 3 a.m. the next day. It was a gruelling schedule he had maintained for three consecutive days. In response, FWICE has called for stricter safety protocols and regulation of daily work shifts to prevent technicians and crew from working to dangerous exhaustion levels.
