Tensions between India and Pakistan have risen after Operation Sindoor, a response to a deadly terror attack on April 22 that killed 26 people. The mission struck terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This situation has also sparked a dispute between actors Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, who once starred together in the 2016 film Sanam Teri Kasam.

Harshvardhan said on Instagram he won’t be part of the sequel if Mawra is involved. His statement followed Mawra’s viral post criticising India’s airstrikes. Their public disagreement has added to the growing online debate surrounding the cross-border conflict.
Mawra Calls Harshvardhan’s Exit From Sanam Teri Kasam Sequel PR Strategy
Mawra slammed India’s response, writing, “We could all hear explosions, children in my country died due to an unjustified cowardly attack, innocent lives are lost… A befitting response by my armed forces have caused frenzy in your country last night.”
She went on to call Harshvardhan’s exit from the sequel a “PR strategy, someone I expected to have basic common sense has risen from deep slumber with a PR strategy… While our nations are at war, this is what you come up with? A PR statement to get attention? What a pity.”

Harshvardhan Slams Mawra For Her ‘PR Remark’
Reacting to Mawra’s remarks, Harshvardhan Rane took to Instagram stories and said, “That sounded like an attempt at a personal attack. Fortunately, I have the tolerance to overlook such attempts—but have zero tolerance for any attack on my nation’s dignity.”
He used a metaphor to reinforce his stance, “An Indian farmer would pluck out the unwanted weed from his crop—it’s called weeding. The farmer doesn’t need a PR team for this act, it’s called common sense.”
Harshvardhan justified his decision and said, “I simply offered to step down from Part 2. I am fully within my rights to choose not to work with individuals who label my country’s actions as ‘cowardly’.”
“So much hate in her speech, so many personal remarks. I never mentioned her name or resorted to calling her names. Didn’t attack her dignity as a woman. I intend to maintain that standard,” he concluded.
AICWA’s statement made it clear that Indian artists must not work with Pakistani talent or share platforms with them. Following this, several Pakistani celebrities, including Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Wahaj Ali, and Sanam Saeed, have seen their Instagram profiles restricted for Indian users.
Harshvardhan’s decision has drawn attention to the impact of political tensions on film and cultural collaborations. With him stepping away, the future of Sanam Teri Kasam 2 remains uncertain, and it is yet to be seen how the makers will move forward with the project.
