Hema Malini Dharmendra

The loss of a legend often leaves behind not just a cinematic void but a deeply personal silence for those closest to them. For Hema Malini, that silence has become a daily reality after the passing of Dharmendra, her partner of decades and one of Hindi cinema’s most enduring stars. At a recent tribute event held in his honour, she spoke with rare openness about grief, memory, and the challenge of moving forward without him, offering a glimpse into a relationship that spanned both life and cinema.

Hema Malini Breaks Down Remembering Late Dharmendra

Hema Malini attended the opening of Lens & Legacy: Bollywood in Focus at the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, where the evening celebrated Dharmendra’s extraordinary journey in films. Standing before an audience gathered to honour his legacy, she reflected on his life, his passion, and the emotional void he has left behind.“He was a great man. I am truly blessed to have been with him, but I miss him a lot now. He is no longer there, so I don’t know how I am going to cope with the rest of my life,” she said, visibly emotional.

She also spoke at length about his deep connection with cinema, recalling how he viewed films as a powerful way to connect with people. The actress said, “This tribute is not just a recognition of his contribution to the film industry, but also of his journey, marked by so much passion, dedication, and immense love for the audience.”

Hema Malini further added, “He always used to say, ‘Film is a way to connect with the heart.’ He was very passionate about working in films and being in front of the camera. As his life partner, I could see how passionate he was, and he touched the hearts of millions of people because of his wonderful performances and his behaviour towards everyone. He has inspired so many people, including the younger generation, as an actor, as a friend and as a father.”
