Ramayana

Namit Malhotra and Nitesh Tiwari Ramayana has been one of the most awaited Bollywood films ever since the epic was announced a couple of years ago. Since the addition of stars like Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash to the cast, the hype around the film only continued to grow. Now, days after the much-hyped trailer released, the film is trending online for a number of different reasons.

While fans of the film are heaping praises for the approx. Rs 2000 crore film, certain sections of the public have noticed glaring mistakes. And one of the biggest is the costumes – especially those wore by the women, in the film. Scroll below to read all they had to say.

Ramayana Costumes Disappoint Fans

Ever since the trailer went live on social media during the wee hours of Thursday, July 30, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram to call out the costumes used in the film. The intense online chatter began after netizens were privy to Lara Dutta’s first look as Queen Kaikeyi. Unimpressed with her side-combed salon-styled hair, modern designer saree, red bindi, and minimal jewellery, one netizen questioned, “Modern saree, salon styled side-combed hair… is this Treta Yuga or 2026?”

Another X user, commented, “Dutta as Kaikeyi is such a disappointment, giving Ektaa Kapoor serial vibe.” A third commented, “why does Keikeyi look like the 3rd saas from an ekta kapoor slop and not like a queen man this movie is a parody” Another tweeted, “Kaikeyi looks like she walked out of a daily soap Ad not the royal palace of Ayodhya. The open hair, saree, and styling feel more TV serial than epic queen. #Ramayana trailer looks promising but Kaikeyi’s look lacks the regal aura and majestic presence a queen deserves.”

Not only Lara Dutta’s Queen Kaikeyi but Sai Pallavi’s Maa Sita looks have also been receiving some criticism.

While the costumes continue to be a topic for discussion, others feels Sai lacks the innocence, grace, and divine aura Maa Sita possessed. Take the poll below and let us know you too agree with this.
