Pratik Shah Issues Apology Over Sexual Misconduct Allegations

In May 2025, cinematographer Pratik Shah, known for his work on acclaimed titles like Homebound (directed by Neeraj Ghaywan), Jubilee (by Vikramaditya Motwane), and CTRL, came under public scrutiny following allegations of sexual misconduct and inappropriate behaviour by multiple women. Now, after a year of silence, he has issued a formal apology acknowledging his past actions. He took responsibility for abusing his position of power and shared that he has been working on himself over the past year through weekly therapy. He also revealed that he has been sober for over a year, which remains an active part of his rehabilitation.

Pratik Shah Issues Apology Over Sexual Misconduct Allegations

“I want to address the online allegations made against me last year. I am deeply remorseful for the mistakes I made and the hurt that I have caused, both in my professional interactions and in my past personal relationships,” he said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter India.

“Looking back, I recognise that I allowed the increasing attention and growth of my career to cloud my judgement, leading to actions that were self-centred and wrong. I operated out of insecurity and a misguided yearning for validation. And I regret that I did not stop to consider the power I wielded as a person of privilege and influence,” Pratik added.

The cinematographer reflected on his initial reactions. “My first instinct was to defend myself publicly when the allegations surfaced. But I soon realised that doing so did not change the reality of my actions. The breakdown of my reputation and relationships was the direct result of my own poor choices. And I take full responsibility for the shame and pain I brought upon my family, friends, and collaborators,” he stated.

Pratik Shah Confirms He’s Been In Therapy While Issuing An Apology

Pratik Shah emphasised his ongoing efforts to improve himself. “Over the past year, I have been working on myself through weekly therapy to address the root causes of my behaviour and realign my actions with my core values. I have also achieved over a year of continuous sobriety, which remains an active part of my ongoing rehabilitation. I know none of this excuses the past. For that, I am truly sorry and ashamed. But I am committed to learning from my failures and earning back trust through my actions,” he said.

The allegations against Pratik Shah first came to light when filmmaker Abhinav Singh took to social media, describing him as “emotionally abusive” and “highly manipulative,” citing testimonies from multiple women. Singh’s candid revelation prompted nearly 20 women to reach out with similar accounts of troubling interactions. Singh shared, “I’ve spoken out, and now I’m hearing from others, people who’ve felt silenced or sidelined. It’s heartbreaking. The patterns are undeniable. Many have called him a predator.”

Following the backlash, Shah appeared to have deactivated his Instagram account last year.

What Happened With Pratik Shah?

After the allegations surfaced, he was removed from the biopic of former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, starring Rajkummar Rao. Additionally, THR India reported that Shah’s conduct had come under scrutiny five years earlier when a young cinematographer accused him of soliciting a nude photograph. A source close to the Indian Women Cinematographers’ Collective (IWCC) confirmed that he had issued an apology at that time.
