Riteish Deshmukh

Actor Riteish Deshmukh will soon be back to the big screen with Sajid-Farhad’s ‘Housefull 3’, the third installment of the very successful franchise. Recently during a conversation with the press, he was asked if being a frequent in the genre of comedy was a conscious choice on his part. This is what he answered!

“When I debuted in 2003, that period was not favourable for newcomers. Because every big and established production house was only doing films with established actors. So we had to figure things out. Some people did receive films. For me, I did two films that didn’t do well. Then I did ‘Masti’, and ‘Masti’ worked well. ‘Kya Kool Hain Hum’ signed me along with ‘Masti’, so I had two films back to back. Both the films were comedies and both did well. So I thought let’s go for comedies,” the actor said.

“Only Ram Gopal Varma was a director who signed me for films which were not comedies. He signed me for ‘Naach’ and ‘Darna Zaruri Hai’. So you see, I got only offers for comedy films. If I am being offered five films and I can do three films out of them, I chose comedies. Because all of them were comedies,” he added.

However, Ritesh has successfully shown his versatility in ‘Ek Villain’ as well as in films by Ram Gopal Varma that featured him in rather unusual roles. But still, his comic roles remain our favourite!

‘Housefull 3’ which also stars Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri and Lisa Hayden, is set to hit the screens on June 3, 2016.
