Earlier today Kangana Ranaut announced her second collaboration with producer Kamal Jain. The actress took to her social media handles to announce their second film Manikarnika Returns: The Legend of Didda. This film will be a standalone sequel to their 2019 release, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi.

Interestingly, Kangana had shared the director credit for Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’s with the film’s original director Krish. So is she planning to return to direction with Manikarnika Returns: The Legend of Didda?

Announcing the film, Kangana took to her Twitter handle and wrote, “India has seen several Bravehearts like the queen of Jhansi. Another such untold story of heroism is of a queen from Kashmir, who defeated Mahmud of Ghazni not once but twice in battle. I and Kamal Jain bring you ManikarnikaReturns: The Legend of Didda.”

Whereas, producer Kamal Jain tweeted, “Our nation has witnessed many stories of brave women who have set great precedents. Honoured to tell the story of the brave queen of Kashmir who defeated Mehmood Ghaznavi twice with none other than @KanganaTeam. #ManikarnikaReturns: The Legend of Didda goes on floors in January 2022 (sic).”

While it’s still not clear who will be directing this sequel but speculations are rife that Kangana will be returning to direction with Manikarnika Returns: The Legend of Didda.

Previously, she had got entangled in an ugly dispute with filmmaker Krish over director credit for ‘Manikarnika’. While Krish accused Kangana of hijacking his project, the actress claimed she had too reshoot half of the film as Krish had abandoned it. Perhaps unlike last time, Kangana will don the director’s hat since the inception of the sequel.

However nothing is official yet, so all we can do now is wait and watch.
