A month after he was arrested on the charges of raping and blackmailing a woman, actor-singer Karan Oberoi was finally granted bail by the Bombay High Court on Friday. Karan is popularly known for his role in television serial ‘Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin’ and for being a part of ‘A Band of Boys’.

As per a report in India Today, Karan was arrested on May 5, when his former girlfriend filed a complaint alleging that he raped her on several occasions and even extorted money from her. The actor-singer was granted cash bail of Rs 50,000. The victim even alleged that Oberoi’s men attacked her because she filed a case against him. However, later Police investigations revealed that the attack was orchestrated by the victim herself. This helped Karan in getting bail from the High court.

Karan’s lawyer Dinesh Tiwari in a statement said, “The high court has made strict observations about the quality of the investigation and against the conduct of the complainant. The high court has said prima facie it is not the case of rape and the WhatsApp communication placed on record which is admitted by the advocate for the complainant does not indicate that it is the case of rape, filming and extortion.”

Justice Revathi Mohite Dere commenting on the way the probe has been conducted so far said, “Much needs to be said about the manner in which probe has been carried out. The police are yet to seize the mobile phones of the complainant. We expect the police to conduct a free, fair and impartial investigation.”

The probe revealed that the complainant wanted to marry Karan, but he refused her proposal. The attack orchestrated by the victim was done to ensure that Karan doesn’t get bail.
