Karan Oberoi, a well-known actor and singer, was arrested on the charges of raping and blackmailing a woman. Known for his role in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, Karan spent one month in jail for charges of sexual harassment, which were said to be false. Now, as per the latest development in Karan Oberoi Case, actors Sudhanshu Pandey and Pooja Bedi have been summoned by the Mumbai Court.

Sudhanshu Pandey and Pooja Bedi along with six others received summons from the Court for allegedly revealing the victim’s name in the Karan Oberoi rape case. A complaint has been filed against Anupamaa actor Sudhanshu Pandey and Pooja Bedi. The two allegedly revealed the rape victim’s identity in the Karan Oberoi case. Both, Sudhanshu and Pooja had come out in support of Karan and spoken strongly for him. However, in June 2019, a complaint was filed against them and some others.

Yesterday, on March 30, 2021, the court issued summons to Pooja, Sudhanshu, and the six others regarding the complaint. The advocate of the complainant told IANS, that the case has been filed under section 228A of Indian Penal Code 1860(IPC) for revealing the identity of his client, the rape victim. “Summons have been issued subsequent to police investigation to all the accused who are now required to appear before the court,” the complainants advocate informed.

Ask Pooja about the same, she said that it is distressing that innocent men can be named and shamed publicly, but a woman who puts a fake rape case gets anonymity. Further denying the allegations, Pooja claimed that she has not revealed the victim’s name. “I have not disclosed her identity in any interview. I have always maintained that names cannot be mentioned,” said Pooja.

Pooja added that she has supported women’s rights for decades and feels it is a tragedy when women misuse laws meant to protect them, to torment men. “If she is referring to private chats between our friends/lawyers discussing her and her fake case, then I think that’s absurd. The High Court judge has sternly reprimanded the police for their handling of the case,” she stated.

Further, Pooja backed Karan Oberoi and said that he is the victim here. “Just because she is a woman does not automatically mean she’s right. We are all aware of the case details. It’s loud and clear that it’s a fake case, she reiterated.

The actress also hopes that when it is proved that her case is wrong, the court allows her name to be publicised so that other men get saved from her wicked ways. “I find her complaint targeting celebrities, top media barons and social media founders bizarre and unfounded,” Pooja signed off.

For the unversed, a complaint was filed against Karan Oberoi with the Oshiwara Police in May 2019. He was charged under Sections 376 (rape) and 384 (extortion) of the IPC. The matter is currently sub-judice.
