Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi are set to leave everyone impressed with their first collaboration in Merry Christmas. Directed by Sriram Raghavan, Merry Christmas is a bizarre thriller that promises to keep you on the edge of your seats. Speaking of which, the director first shot the movie in Hindi and then in Tamil. Now, Sriram Raghavan has revealed that filming for the Tamil version was a bit ‘torturous’ for Katrina Kaif.

Sriram Raghavan on Katrina Kaif doing the Tamil version of Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas director Sriram Raghavan got into a conversation with Galatta Plus. He opened up about the working experience with Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif. He said, “The rewriting continued till the last day. When Vijay Sethupathi came in, it was still a Hindi film. But during the second wave, we’d built a set, but for three months we couldn’t shoot because Katrina’s dates were clashing with Tiger and Vijay was also not free… So, 70% of the set was done, but we were prohibited from shooting, so we had to bring (the set) down. Costs were going up, but nothing was on screen.”

He continued saying, “Then I had this ‘kill two birds with one stone’ idea. If I make a Tamil film also, maybe that would (mitigate) costs. So, then the only person to really convince was Katrina. She had to go through this little bit of a torture process. But she eventually agreed. She was still hoping that you do one film in Hindi with me, and take another girl instead (for the Tamil version). But I said, ‘No, you try and manage’.”

The chemistry of the Merry Christmas duo has heightened the anticipation among the audience. With the already building hype after the trailer release, it will definitely be a treat to watch Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi team up for the first time. With this, Merry Christmas hits the release date on 12th January, 2024.
