Lata Mangeshkar, Two-day national mourning, passes away

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away today, on February 6 in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital at the age of 92. She was admitted to the hospital after she was tested positive for COVID-19 on January 11. Later her sister Asha Bhonsle informed that Lata Mangeshkar health is improving and better than before. However, she continued to stay in the ICU and as her condition was getting critical, she stayed on ventilator support. Now, much to everyone’s dismay, she breathed her last today at the age of 92. 

After her demise, two-day national mourning will be observed in the memory of the legendary singer. As a mark of respect to the Bharat Ratna awardee, the National Flag will fly at half-mast for two days. “She came and got admitted as a Covid patient. Covid was treated but due to post-Covid complications she passed away,” said N Santhanam, chief executive officer of Breach Candy Hospital, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Meanwhile, many celebs like Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Kiara Advani, Dia Mirza, Ajay Devgn and many more expressed their grief.

After Lata Mangeshkar passes away, even Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi offered condolence to her and her family as he wrote, “I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people.

Lata Mangeshkar who was crowned as the Nightingale of India was one of the legendary singers. She was honoured with Padma Bhushan (1969) Dadasaheb Phalke Award (1989) Maharashtra Bhushan (1997) Padma Vibhushan (1999) Bharat Ratna (2001) Legion of Honour and many more.
