After years of action-heavy and larger than life releases dominating the box office, 2026 is shaping up to be a big year for comedy in Hindi cinema. With sequels like Golmaal 5, Bhagam Bhag 2, Hera Pheri 3, Welcome to the Jungle and Dhamaal 4 already generating buzz, another beloved title may soon join the list. The 2006 cult favourite Malamaal Weekly is reportedly set to return with a second instalment, with makers said to have locked a fresh concept that expands the franchise rather than continuing the original story directly.
Malamaal Weekly 2 In Works?
A source revealed to Bollywood Hungama that, “Talks have begun for Malamaal Weekly 2. The team, working on the film, has hit upon a great idea that is apt as the second part of the series. It is not a direct sequel. The characters and setting this time would be different, but just like the first part, it’ll be about a group of greedy villagers who go to insane lengths to get hold of a huge amount of money.”
As per reports, veteran actor Paresh Rawal has given an initial nod to the project, though nothing has been made official yet. Meanwhile, actors Rajpal Yadav and Riteish Deshmukh have reportedly been approached to join the ensemble, hinting at another multi-starrer comedy in the making.
About Malamaal Weekly
Released in 2006, Malamaal Weekly was directed by Priyadarshan. The film featured an ensemble cast including Paresh Rawal, Riteish Deshmukh, Rajpal Yadav, late Om Puri and late Asrani. Set in a debt-ridden village, the story revolved around a lottery ticket worth Rs 1 Crore and the chaos that ensues when a group of villagers tries to claim the money through lies, deception and increasingly absurd schemes. Known for its slapstick humour, misunderstandings and Priyadarshan’s signature comic timing, the film went on to become a favourite among fans of ensemble comedies.
