Powerhouse performer Nawazuddin Siddiqui is playing the titular role in the film. ‘Manto’ has already been selected to be screened at the celebrated Toronto International Film Festival(TIFF). The makers of the film shared a behind the scenes video of this film, in which director Nandita can be heard sharing about what made her chose Nawaz as Manto. Nandita says, “The reason I think Nawaz fits the role of Manto is not only how he looks. It was his eyes that I felt in terms of the physicality of it worked really well. His eyes have a feel of really lived life which he has. ”

Nawaz too shares why he feels the closest to this character as they share same sensibilities. You can check out this behind the scene video here:

Earlier, sharing about what all went behind the making of the film, Nandita had said, “It took 5 long years of reading his works, getting people’s inputs, writing several drafts of the script to finally feel equipped, both emotionally & creatively to tell Manto’s story.”

Produced by HP Studios, Filmstoc, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Nandita Das Initiatives, ‘Manto’ will hit the silver screens on September 21, this year.
