Celebs Pay Last Respects To Pahlaj Nihlani

Pahlaj Nihalani, former Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), passed away on Thursday, June 4, according to a report in Hindustan Times. He was 76 years old and died at a Mumbai hospital at around 9:30 am. His funeral will be held today in Mumbai. Nihalani is survived by his wife, Nita Nihalani, and his three sons. Many Bollywood celebs have arrived at the crematorium to pay their condolences.

Saif Ali Khan was spotted in a white kurta at the crematorium.

Among the members of Bollywood, Malaika and Amruta Arora were the first at the filmmaker’s residence. Mala was seen in a white kurta and mid-raise bun.

Amruta was seen in a yellow kurta set, complemented by black shades.

Arhaan Khan was also seen with his mother and aunt arriving at the crematorium.

Farhan Akhtar also arrived at his residence to pay his condolences. He was seen in a simple beige coloured shirt and white pants. Filmmaker Ramesh Taurani and his wife, Varsha Taurani, also came to the late CBFC Chief’s residence.

Veteran Actor-Politician Shatrugan Sinha arrived at the crematorium. He was seen in a white kurta.

Filmmaker Anees Bazmee was also spotted.

Veteran filmmaker David Dhawan and his son Varun Dhawan were seen arriving at the funeral ahead of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’s release tomorrow.

Pahlaj Nihalani’s Film Career

Nihalani served as the CBFC chairperson between 2015 and 2017. His tenure frequently made headlines as debates over censorship and film certification intensified. He was one of the most talked-about CBFC chiefs in recent years due to his strict censorship policies and mandates. He stepped down from the position on August 11, 2017, following which Prasoon Joshi was appointed as the new CBFC chairperson.

Pahlaj Nihalani launched his career as a producer in 1982 with the film Haathkadi. Through his production company, he brought several successful films to the screen, many of which were directed by David Dhawan. Notable among these are Shola Aur Shabnam (1992) and Aankhen (1993), both of which achieved significant commercial success.

Over the years, Nihalani supported a variety of Bollywood projects, including Andaz, Talaash, Rangeela Raja, and Julie 2. He is survived by his wife, Nita, and his three sons, Vishal, Deepesh and Chirag.
