Heer Sara Heer Sara Aur Pondicherry Patralekhaa Maanvi Gagroo

Patralekhaa and Maanvi Gagroo’s upcoming film Heer Sara has finally received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), but not before undergoing a delay, a title change and modifications. The film was earlier titled Heer Sara Aur Pondicherry and was initially slated to release on May 29. However, just days before its release, the makers postponed the film to June 12 and announced its new title.

Patralekhaa, Maanvi Gagroo Starrer Retitled As Heer Sara

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the delay stemmed from objections raised by the CBFC’s Examining Committee. A source told the publication, “A few scenes and themes didn’t seem acceptable to the CBFC’s Examining Committee, which viewed the film. The process took a while, due to which the makers decided to delay the film’s release by two weeks.”

The report further revealed that the CBFC objected to the use of ‘Pondicherry’ in the title. Explaining the reason behind the change, the source said, “Also, ‘Pondicherry’ was asked to be axed from the title. The CBFC members were of the opinion that the film has certain mature content, which should not be associated with the Union Territory.”

Apart from the title modification, the makers also removed a derogatory word used in the second half of the film. Following these changes, the CBFC granted Heer Sara an ‘A’ certificate on May 29. As per the censor certificate, the film has a runtime of 99 minutes and 17 seconds.

Insiders’ Question: Why The Title Faced Objection

The development has sparked conversations within the industry. Several insiders have questioned why the film faced objections over its title when films such as The Kashmir Files, The Kerala Story, Agra and Aligarh were released with their original names intact.

Reacting to the decision, an industry insider told the portal, “Films like The Kashmir Files (2022), The Kerala Story (2023), Udaipur Files (2025) and The Bengal Files (2025) were passed by the CBFC without the makers being asked to change their titles. Agra (2024) and Aligarh (2016) were also released with their original titles. Then why was a sweet, heartfelt film like Heer Sara Aur Pondicherry singled out and made to change its title?”
