Raja Shivaji Box Office Sairat Riteish Deshmukh

Raja Shivaji has emerged as a historic box office success for Marathi cinema. Starring and directed by Riteish Deshmukh, the historical drama based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is rewriting long-standing records and setting new benchmarks for the industry. Nearly a decade after Sairat became the first Marathi film to cross Rs 100 crore worldwide, Raja Shivaji has now achieved the same milestone and is rapidly moving toward the top spot.

Raja Shivaji Crosses Rs 100 Cr Globally

Back in 2016, director Nagraj Manjule’s Sairat created history by crossing the Rs 100 crore mark globally. The film’s success marked a turning point for Marathi cinema. However, in the years that followed, no Marathi film came close to repeating that achievement. Now, Raja Shivaji has changed that narrative.

The film opened strongly at the box office and earned more than Rs 30 crore net during its first weekend. It continued its solid run during the weekdays and ended its first week at Rs 52.65 crore net. By the end of week two, the film had collected Rs 77 crore net domestically.

Interestingly, Raja Shivaji witnessed another major boost during its third weekend. The film collected Rs 7.60 crore net over the weekend alone. After 17 days in theatres, its domestic collection has reached Rs 84.55 crore net, while its worldwide gross has officially crossed Rs 100 crore.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that the film did not secure an overseas release, which remains common for most Marathi films. Despite the absence of an international theatrical rollout, Raja Shivaji still managed to touch the Rs 100 crore gross milestone entirely through its domestic performance.

Raja Shivaji Set To Beat Sairat’s All-Time Mark

On Sunday alone, the film reportedly earned Rs 4 crore gross. Even after the expected Monday drop, trade estimates suggest it could add another Rs 5 crore gross before entering its fourth weekend. Given its current momentum, industry observers expect the film to continue its strong theatrical run.

At present, Sairat still holds the record as the highest-grossing Marathi film with a lifetime worldwide collection of Rs 110 crore gross. However, Raja Shivaji now appears very close to surpassing that figure. If the film maintains its current pace, it could become the highest-grossing Marathi film of all time during its fourth week.

Only three other Marathi films, Baipan Bhari Deva, Ved and Natsamrat, have crossed the Rs 50 crore mark so far. This further highlights the scale of Raja Shivaji’s box office achievement. Notably, Ved also starred Riteish Deshmukh, which means the actor now features in two of the top five highest-grossing Marathi films in history.

About Raja Shivaji

Apart from Riteish Deshmukh, Raja Shivaji also stars Genelia D’Souza, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi and Amole Gupte. The film is produced by Genelia D’Souza and Jyoti Deshpande under Mumbai Film Company and Jio Studios.

Overall, Raja Shivaji has not only emerged as a commercial blockbuster but has also become a landmark moment for Marathi cinema. With strong audience support and sustained momentum at the box office, the film is now on track to create even bigger history in the coming weeks.
