Riteish Deshmukh’s historical drama Raja Shivaji was released in theatres on May 1 and experienced a significant boost in collections during its second weekend. However, following this weekend’s growth, the film saw an expected decline at the box office on its second Monday. The film also features Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Sanjay Dutt, and others. According to the trade website Sacnilk, Raja Shivaji collected Rs 2.40 crore in India on its second Monday, after experiencing a dip. This brings its total domestic net collection to Rs 70.65 crore so far. The film earned Rs 3.20 crore on Friday and saw a decent increase over the weekend, collecting Rs 5.60 crore on Saturday and Rs 6.80 crore on Sunday.

In its opening week, Raja Shivaji had a total collection of Rs 52.65 crore, with Rs 11.35 crore on opening day, Rs 10.55 crore on its first Saturday, and Rs 12 crore on its first Sunday. The film has been performing better in Marathi than in Hindi.

Raja Shivaji is a film co-written and directed by Riteish Deshmukh, based on the life of Shivaji, the founder of the Maratha Empire. Genelia D’Souza and Jyoti Deshpande have produced the film. Riteish and Genelia play Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Saibai, respectively. Their sons, Rahyl and Riaan, portray young Shivaji.
The film also features Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, and Amole Gupte in key roles. Reportedly, this is the most expensive Marathi film ever made, with a budget of Rs 100 crore. It was also released in Hindi and has received mixed reviews.
