Namit Malhotra Reacts To Ramayana Teaser Launch In LA Before India

Recently, several users took to their respective X handles to question the makers of Ramayana over the decision to unveil the teaser in Los Angeles before its release in India. Fans of Ranbir Kapoor expressed disappointment after the teaser of the highly anticipated film was premiered in Los Angeles ahead of its India launch. Many alleged that the makers were prioritising profits by targeting the NRI audience. Addressing the criticism, producer Namit Malhotra has now shared his perspective.

Namit Malhotra attended a Ramayana event in Mumbai, where he explained the rationale behind the international launch. The producer said, “There’s no division, it’s one world, one Ramayana and one Rama,” adding that the intention was to introduce the Hindu mythological epic to a global audience.

He further added, “It’s harder for us in the middle of the shoot to stop work and go and meet people and spread awareness; we are not selling tickets. We want to take Ramayana to the world.”

Mixed Reactions From Netizens Over This Decision

Meanwhile, reactions on social media remained divided. While some users criticised the move as commercially driven, others felt it was insensitive to Indian audiences. “What’s wrong with India. It’s an Indian movie, why not India first?” one user wrote. Another criticised, “Just to create hype in India, the drama is going on..Ramayana is our story. Why first glimpse in another country………producer only wants money.. where are the emotions of our people.” While another added, “So the absolute first people to ever see this are in Los Angeles, not India? Wow, got it! At least the Varanasi event was in, you know, India!”

Talking about the teaser, it has now been officially released in India as well. It dropped on April 2, coinciding with the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti. The glimpse revealed Ranbir Kapoor’s look as Lord Ram, marking a significant step in presenting the timeless epic to a global audience.
