The recent conversation between Alia Bhatt and Indian yogi-author Sadhguru has garnered widespread attention since its release. The discussion covered various facets of life, from fears about motherhood to sleep habits. During the chat, Sadhguru was taken aback when Alia shared her sleep routine and suggested she cut back on her sleeping hours.
Sadhguru Roasts Alia Bhatt’s Sleep Cycle
When Sadhguru mentioned that after an accident, he became accustomed to sleeping just 4–5 hours a night, he said, “Now I sleep for four and a half, five hours, depends on the day. That’s it? What do you mean, that’s it? That’s a quarter of the day.” Alia responded that she sleeps around 8 to 9 hours daily.
Surprised by her reply, he asked, “When will you live?” To which the actress replied, “All we are told is sleep, rest, it’s when your body repairs itself. That’s what we are told.” Sadhguru then questioned, “Why did you damage your body in the first place? People ask me, ‘What do you do to unwind?’ I say, ‘I don’t wind myself up.’ Why do you wind yourself and why do you go and unwind?”
“Oh my God, that’s true, actually. Why are we so wound up? But we are always wound up. You reach the end of the day and you’re tired, you want to sleep. And even after I’ve slept for 8 hours, I want to sleep, but then I have to wake up. I love sleeping,” Alia admitted, as Sadhguru explained his perspective on sleeping less.
The guru added, “Nobody loves sleeping because when you’re really sleeping, you don’t exist, so what’s there to love about it? You don’t love your existence. You may like the restfulness it creates for you.”
