The year 2020 has not been a great year for the entire human race. Coronavirus has affected the entire world not only in terms of economy, but there has been a mass trauma due to the pandemic. We had a telephonic conversation with choreographer-actor Salman Yusuff Khan where he spoke about the pandemic, how it has affected him career-wise, his learnings from it and more.

Salman said, “This year has been a roller coaster for me. The first four months I enjoyed because the time I couldn’t give to my wife and son, I gave my full time. I don’t want to be ungrateful; I was one of the blessed ones to worry about anything as we were well provided. We didn’t have to compromise with any lifestyle issue. But, creatively, I found myself in a very dead space because as a creative person I am so used to go out, discover new things, meet new people every single day. There was a point during the lockdown where I felt like ‘have I really lost the passion?’ The passion in life, dance, act, and passion to be just creative. I felt this conflict within myself that what am I doing. There are so many things and I don’t think I can confine everything in words right now. My family, my wife helped me to come out of it positively and you can see things are opening up slowly and we are seeing better days and looking forward to much better days and definitely it has been an experience that we shall be talking about it to our children and grandchildren.”

When asked what he learned from this pandemic phase, Salman said, “I learned that life to live is not very expensive, lifestyle is expensive. Simple things in life matter. There is a very thin line in being ambitious and being greedy. I have understood the difference.”

He added, “People have come out of this pandemic either a loser or winner. There are people who slipped into depression and it is understandable because a lot of people’s earnings, income everything got affected and they couldn’t see any end to it. Nobody was prepared for something like this. We were one of the worst prepared and unorganised countries when it came to the pandemic in terms of both lockdown and opening up. People have forgotten that there is a pandemic. Half of them don’t wear masks. Globally, one thing that has helped us and our children is the climate and the recovery of mother earth.”
