Karan Johar recently wrapped up the streaming of his chat show Koffee With Karan 7. The seventh season had returned after a huge gap amidst lots of excitement and expectations and the short and sweet season lived up to all that hype to a certain extent. From exciting pairings like Sara Ali Khan-Janhvi Kapoor and Akshay Kumar-Samantha Prabhu, to some solid one liners from the guests, the whole season had a lot to offer, and in the last episode of the series, Karan even announced the show’s return with an eighth season. However, one thing that Koffee With Karan 7 missed dearly was the appearance of Shah Rukh Khan, and now the filmmaker has an update if the badshah would be returning for the next season.

Although Shah Rukh Khan didn’t appear physically on Koffee With Karan 7, he sure did make a vocal appearance in one of the episodes when his wife Gauri Khan came on the show and made a call to him in the ‘Hey Karan, it’s me’ segment. SRK was the first ever guest on the show when it started in 2004, along with Kajol, and ever since, the superstar has made it to almost all the seasons. However, he gave it a miss this time around.

When asked if SRK would be making a return in the next season of the show, Karan Johar told Bollywood Hungama, “I’m hoping that we can do something solid with Shah Rukh Khan in the next season because he’s been such a huge part of the show. Every time he’s appeared, he’s been magical. So I’m hoping that but there are so many more people that I still would love to get on the show.” Amongst those other guests, Karan wants Ranbir Kapoor to be one as well who, he revealed, “teases him” saying he “won’t come on Koffee With Karan ever”. I’ll try and convince him for the next season,” he said hopefully.

Karan also shed light on how the seventh season streaming on a digital platform made the guests use language a little more freely. However, he also noted the apprehensions in them as well. I also feel everyone’s a lot more prepared with their answers because they know who not to offend, and how to play it. So I think people are a lot more careful in the rapid fire. So I’m hoping that we can kind of cross that bridge with the next season. I think everyone’s coming a lot more guarded than they ever were. And that sometimes is like not the syntax of KWK. Everyone’s so touchy and sensitive. Nobody takes everything in humour. I mean, everybody takes everything very seriously. They don’t want to upset anybody and I’m like, there’s a fine line between being funny and being offensive and I hope that we can be on that line. I hope we can crack it.”
