Jackie Shroff Shah Rukh Khan

Veteran actor Jackie Shroff recently opened up about his long association with Shah Rukh Khan and reflected on the superstar’s journey over the years. From playing Shah Rukh’s elder brother in King Uncle to sharing screen space with him in films like Devdas, One 2 Ka 4 and Happy New Year. Jackie recalled several memories from their collaborations. The actor also revealed the simple instruction Shah Rukh gave him while casting him in Happy New Year.

Jackie Shroff Recalls Full Circle Moment With Shah Rukh Khan

Speaking to Yuvaa, Jackie Shroff looked back at the time when he first worked with Shah Rukh Khan in King Uncle and remembered how quiet and reserved the actor used to be on set. “Shah Rukh Khan played my younger brother in King Uncle, and I thought he was very silent. He would always sit in a corner. Every time I looked at him, I felt like he was a volcano waiting to erupt. He was extremely quiet. Then we worked together in Devdas, and years later he cast me in Happy New Year. The only brief he gave me was: ‘Look handsome,’” Jackie shared.

The actor also praised Shah Rukh Khan for his personality, humility and global success, adding that the superstar has remained unchanged despite reaching incredible heights in his career. “Now, I am doing King with him. He is still the same. He has a lot of respect for everybody. He loves everybody. He is so well-spoken. He has represented India globally. I think he is one of the most beautiful human beings we have. What an actor, and he has a style that is entirely his own,” he added.

This is not the first time Jackie Shroff has spoken about Shah Rukh’s reserved nature during their early years together. In an earlier conversation with Vickey Lalwani, Jackie recalled observing Shah Rukh sitting alone during the shoot of King Uncle. “Akelapan. Har actor ko ek lonely feel hona chahiye, mere ko bola tha ye kisi ne. So I saw him sitting out there, on his own. He was playing my younger brother. And he was respectful, focused on his work, and he was charismatic and charming. But aloof. Like I was aloof, he was also aloof. I liked those vibes,” Jackie had shared.

Jackie Shroff’s Earlier Confession On Working With SRK

The actor further reflected on how Shah Rukh remained the same person for him even after becoming one of the biggest stars in the country. “Devdas se pehle bhi humne kayi films ki. One 2 Ka Four kiya aur ek-do films aur. Par Devdas mein normal tha. Mere liye toh mera bhai tha, chhota bhai jo maine dekha. Wohi ladka jo maine dekha tha ki akele kone mein baitha hai. Role bhi waisa tha Devdas ka, aur main jaisa hoon waisa hi tha uske saath,” Jackie said.

Jackie Shroff also spoke about the loneliness that often comes with immense success and fame. Without directly criticising stardom, he reflected on how reaching the top can become isolating. “I think if you go to the top of the Everest, you will just have your shadow. Otherwise, it’s lonely up there,” he said.

Jackie Shroff and Shah Rukh Khan most recently shared screen space in Farah Khan’s Happy New Year in 2014, where Jackie played the stylish antagonist Charan Grover opposite Shah Rukh’s team of thieves.

On the work front, Jackie Shroff and Shah Rukh Khan are set to reunite once again in Siddharth Anand’s upcoming action film King. While the makers have kept Jackie’s role under wraps, the film continues to remain one of the most anticipated Bollywood projects currently in production.
