Bollywood has evolved over the years and has started taking up subjects like sex and menstruation that was earlier considered as taboo. ‘Vicky Donor’ and ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’ are some of the noted movies in this niche. Now, joining the same league is Sonakshi Sinha’s recently released film ‘Khandaani Shafakhana’.

In an interview with Times of India, Sonakshi spoke about the welcome change in Bollywood. “Films, apart from entertaining you, can drive you to start thinking about topics that are relevant but are seldom discussed. ‘Vicky Donor’ and ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’ have made Ayushmann Khurrana the flag bearer of films on sex-related subjects in Bollywood,” Sonakshi shared.

The ‘Dabangg’ actress further added, “His films have actually made these discussions possible in the public domain. These films and their acceptance in Bollywood has made it possible to make such movies and highlight such subjects in a lighter vein. I’m happy that I have entered that space, too.”

When Ayushmann was asked about Sonakshi’s comment on his choice of films, he said, “I think that’s a huge compliment. We should talk about sex openly, and times have indeed changed. Sex education is not something that should happen with peers. Parents should start the conversation… maybe with something like good and bad touch. When we talk about progressive cinema, this is what we are talking about; bringing about change that matters.”

‘Khandaani Shafakhana’ released today in theatres. Starring Sonakshi in the lead, the film is helmed by Shilpi Dasgupta and also stars Varun Sharma and Badshah. The film is based on a taboo subject of sex-related issues and their discussion in the society.
