After delivering the first blockbuster of 2019 with ‘Uri – The Surgical Strike’, Ronnie Screwvala has now decided to back a dance-themed film named ‘Bhangra Paa Le’, starring Vicky Kaushal’s brother Sunny Kaushal and Rukshar Dhillon under the banner of RSVP movies. The film, that is helmed by music baron Ramesh Taurani’s daughter Sneha Taurani, is all set to hit the theatres on 13th September 2019.
Ronnie, who had created the very successful franchise of ‘ABCD’ in his earlier avatar at UTV, is looking to create a similar dance franchise at RSVP with this film. With ‘Bhangra Paa Le’, he aims to pave a bridge between the traditional forms of Bhangra from Punjab and its juxtaposition with western dance forms from all across the world.
The film stars Sunny Kaushal as Jaggi Singh, a part-time DJ and full-time bhangra dancer. Singh’s obsession with dance leads him to some of the biggest competitions in the world and to the dancer Simi Kohli, played by Telugu actress Rukshar Dhillon.
Sunny is quite excited about his role and said, “Bhangra is something that is very close to me. Being a Punjabi, I have grown up on Punjabi music and bhangra and till date, it is my go-to jam. Being a part of a film based on bhangra is very surreal.”
The screenplay (written by Dheeraj Rattan) is a transition between the past and present time periods and showcases romance, dance and music through the ages. The music will be composed by Jam8 under Pritam’s supervision.
