Director Kamakhya Narayan Singh Calls Prakash Raj 'Intellectually Bankrupt'

A new controversy has emerged over the upcoming film The Kerala Story 2, with National Award-winning director Kamakhya Narayan Singh sharply criticising actor Prakash Raj for his recent social media remarks about the movie. The sequel has already sparked intense debate following the release of its trailer, with opinions divided—some calling it a depiction of a “brutal truth.” In contrast, others dismiss it as “propaganda.”

Kamakhya Narayan Singh SLAMS Prakash Raj’s The Kerala Story Post

The film tackles themes of alleged religious conversion and coercion, set against the backdrop of Kerala, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. The latest point of contention arose after Prakash Raj posted on his official X account, contrasting the 2023 film The Kerala Story with images of pork curry, beef fry, fish curry, and a vegetarian Onam sadya. Highlighting culinary harmony, he wrote, “The real #KeralaStory is how pork, beef, and fish coexist with vegetarian sadya, and all of them live in harmony. Please relish. #justasking. Happy Sunday everyone.”

Kamakhya Narayan Singh REACTS To Prakash Raj’s Post

In response, Kamakhya Narayan Singh told ANI that he found Raj’s comments “disappointing” and labelled him as “intellectually bankrupt.” Singh questioned the credibility of allegations concerning forced beef consumption and religious conversion. He said, “I don’t know what he eats, nor do I care, because his statements reflect his ‘consumption.’ But tell me—are our daughters being forcefully fed beef and converted? If that’s true, then I question Prakash Raj’s conscience. Such practices are unacceptable in a civilised Indian society. He has become intellectually bankrupt.”

Vipul Amrutlal Shah On The Kerala Story 2 Controversy

Meanwhile, producer Vipul Shah clarified that the film does not target Kerala specifically. Speaking to ANI earlier, Shah said, “We’re not after Kerala. Kerala is God’s Own Country. We want to eliminate this evil from that state as soon as possible.” He also addressed criticisms of the first film, particularly regarding the figures cited, by releasing a detailed YouTube video explaining the data, including names and numbers. Shah further claimed that the lack of government action after the first film’s release motivated the making of the sequel.

The Kerala Story 2 is set to hit theatres on February 27.
