Twinkle Khanna condemns violence in JNU; Twitterati digs up an old pic of Akshay Kumar waving ABVP flag

Conflicting political views always brings out the worst even in friends. So can you imagine the scenario when a husband and wife share drastically varied views on such matters? Obviously things are not easy in such cases. Facing a similar situation is actress-turned-columnist Twinkle Khanna and her actor-husband Akshay Kumar.

Twinkle recently condemned the attacks on students and teachers in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus. However, the netizens soon schooled her about how her husband is an ardent supporter of the ruling party who is allegedly accused of carrying state-sponsored attacks on anyone protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Twinkle shared her views on the on-going attacks by unidentified goons on the JNU students and staff. Reportedly, the goons belong to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student union affiliated with Rashtriya Seva Sangh (RSS).

Sharing a headline of Mumbai Mirror, Twinkle wrote, “India, where cows seem to receive more protection than students, is also a country that now refuses to be cowed down. You can’t oppress people with violence-there will be more protests, more strikes, more people on the street. This headline says it all.”

Soon, Twitter users hit back at Twinkle and asked her to look at her husband Akshay Kumar first. The ‘Airlift’ actor openly supports the BJP government and hence the Twitterati didn’t spare him when Twinkle shared her views.

One of the users commented on Khanna’s post, “It’s very nice you’re happily married at a time when most marriages crumble but how do you make peace with that fact when your spouse actively supports this murderous, fascist entirely regressive government? I’m genuinely curious, Ms Khanna. Promise.”

Whereas another user pointed out how Akshay is a paid propagandist. “Husband is a paid propagandist of #ABVPgoons while wife writes peans about the security of students. These double-headed snakes are the actual #TukdeTukdeGang,” commented a user.

Both Twinkle and Akshay are quite vocal about their opposite political ideologies so its quite obvious that they are caught in such scenarios very often.
