Priyanka Chopra is all set to make her return to Indian cinema after seven years with her upcoming film, SS Rajamouli’s directorial Varanasi, starring alongside Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. In an interview, Priyanka shared that she had one condition before accepting the project — she wanted to dance in the film. SS Rajamouli, the director, agreed, and Mahesh Babu confirmed that the song will be “sensational.”

Priyanka Chopra Requested SS Rajamouli For A Dance In Varanasi

During a conversation with CinemaBlend, Priyanka Chopra recalled asking SS Rajamouli to include a dance scene in Varanasi. She said, “I hadn’t done an Indian film in about six years. When he called me and said, ‘The female character is really cool, and you should do it,’ I had just one request: ‘Will you make me dance? Please, because I haven’t danced in so long.’ Turns out, I shouldn’t have asked—because now we’re dancing! There’s a lot of dancing, and poor Mahesh was like, ‘It’s because of you. Because of you, I have to do this too.’”

Mahesh Babu added, “It’s sensational. We’ve already shot one song, and it keeps playing in our minds. Priyanka keeps singing it all the time. She wanted to dance, and he made sure she did.”

About Varanasi

Directed by SS Rajamouli, known for the blockbuster RRR (2022), Varanasi marks his next project. The film is Priyanka’s comeback to Indian cinema, where she will play an action-packed role as Mandakini. The cast also includes Mahesh Babu as the hero and Prithviraj Sukumaran as the antagonist.

The teaser hints at a story centred around time travel and promises an action-adventure, with fans already speculating about the plot, which remains tightly under wraps. The director has revealed that in one sequence, Mahesh Babu will portray Lord Rama, adding to the anticipation. The film is scheduled to hit theaters in April 2027.
