Ashalata Wabgaonkar passes away death

Veteran actress Ashalata Wabgaonkar breathed her last on Tuesday. The noted Marathi actress who has also worked in several Bollywood films succumbed to Covid-19. She was 79.

The veteran actress was admitted to a private hospital in Satara. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the veteran actress had contracted the deadly virus on the sets of the Marathi mythological serial ‘Aai Mazi Kalubai’.

The same report further states that apart from Ashalata, around 20 to 22 members of the show’s crew have tested positive for Coronavirus. They all have been home quarantined whereas Ashalata admitted to a hospital as she was critical.

Expressing her sorrow over Ashalata’s demise, Renuka Shahane took to her Twitter handle and wrote in Marathi that roughly translates to, “I am deeply saddened today. Covid has claimed the life of a very beautiful soul. She was an extremely caring, loving, sensitive and brilliant actress. She always used to bless me like her child. May her soul rest in peace. Heartfelt condolences.”

Ashalata was introduced to Hindi films by renowned director Basu Chatterjee in ‘Apne Paraye’ for which she was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. She starred in films such as ‘Ankush’, ‘Apne Paraye’, ‘Ahista Ahista’, ‘Shaukeen’, ‘Woh Saat Din’, ‘Namak Halaal’ and ‘Yaadon Ki Kasam’ to name a few. She is a noted actress in Marathi cinema and quite known for her work in theatre as well.
