Vir Das bags the prestigious International Emmy Award 2023 for Best Comedy

Vir Das is one of the most renowned actor and a comedian who cherishes a massive fan following, not only for his movies and acting but also for his content-rich comedy backed with meaningful messages. Now, Vir Das has won big at the International Emmys 2023 as he brought the prestigious award home!

It is an absolutely proud moment that Vir Das has brought an Emmy Award to India. The Go Goa Gone actor won the award for Best Comedy for his Netflix Special Vir Das: Landing. Well, the award was a tie between Vir Das: Landing and the British teen sitcom Derry Girls: Season 3.

Vir Das expresses gratitude for his win

Vir Das is elated to have won this award. He said, “I have immense gratitude, holding the International Emmy for Best Comedy for ‘Vir Das:Landing.’ This one is for my team and for Netflix without whom this wouldn’t have been possible. This journey has been nothing short of extraordinary, and to win this accolade for my fifth special with Netflix feels like a culmination of passion, perseverance, and the undying support of people around the globe who have given so much love to “Vir Das:Landing”.

He added, “This award is not just a recognition of my work but a celebration of the diverse stories and voices from India. Stories that make us laugh, reflect, and, most importantly, unite. This one is for India, for indian comedy and for the community of artists at large.”

The official page of the International Emmy Awards took to its Twitter handle to share the big achievement. It wrote, “We have a Tie! The International Emmy for Comedy goes to “Vir Das: Landing” produced by Weirdass Comedy/Rotten Science/Netflix.”

The social media page also shared a post that informed the big win of Derry Girls Season 3. It wrote, “We have a Tie! The International Emmy for Comedy goes to “Derry Girls – Season 3″ produced by Hat Trick Productions”

Before the award ceremony, Vir Das got into a conversation with India Today. He expressed that the thought of bagging the Emmy Award is not something he is entertaining. He had said, “I’m just kind of enjoying the blessing, and whatever happens, happens.“

The standup special of Vir Das: Landing was nominated opposite Derry Girls Season 3 from the United Kingdom, El Encargado from Argentina and French show La Flambeau Season 2.

The awards also featured notable talents from the Hindi cinema including Shefali Shah and Jim Sarbh. Jim Sarbh was nominated in the best performance category for his role in Rocket Boys. On the other hand, Shefali Shah was nominated for the best performance by an actress category for Delhi Crime Season 2.
