Ayan Mukerji’ War 2 was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films of 2025. Starring Hrithik Roshan as ‘Kaboo’ Major Kabir Dhaliwal and Jr NTR as ‘Raghu’ Major Vikram Chelapathi, the film was mounted on a massive budget of around Rs 300–400 crore. The film – which clashed at the box office with Rajinikanth’s Coolie, opened to mixed-to-negative reviews and has failed to impress the audience.
In the week since it’s release, War 2 has struggled to enter the Rs 200 crore domestically. And now, reports have surfaced stating that Naga Vamsi – the distributor of the film’s Telugu version, has decided to quit the film industry owing to the low response. Read on to know all about it.
Distributor Quitting Industry After War 2’s Box Office Debacle?
Naga Vamsi recently took to his X handle and clarified that he is not quitting cinema and is here to stay for a minimum of 10 to 15 years. He wrote in Telugu, “Enti nannu chala miss avthunattu unnaru.. Vamsi adi, Vamsi idi ani gripping narratives tho full hadavidi nadustundi… Parledu, X lo manchi writers unnaru. Sorry to disappoint you all, but inka aa time raaledu… minimum inko 10-15 years undi. At the cinemas… for the cinema, always! See you all with our next outing #MassJathara, Very Soon!”
His tweet roughly translates in English to, “It seems like you are missing me too much… There seem to be gripping narratives on Vamsi this and Vamsi that. It’s okay, there seem to be good writers on X. Sorry to disapoint you all, but that time hasn’t come yet… A minimum of 10-15 years remain for it. At the cinemas… for the cinema, always! See you all with our next outing #MassJathara, Very Soon!”
About The Film
Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 is based on a story by Aditya Chopra and stars Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR in lead roles. It also features Kiara Advani, Ashutosh Rana, Anil Kapoor and Varun Badola in pivotal roles. The film is all set to enter the Rs 200 crore club today, having already amassed Rs 199 crore at the domestic box office.
Giving the film a 2-star rating, Bollywood Bubble wrote in its review, “War 2 had all the right ingredients on paper, but wasted two megastars, exotic locations, and the backing of YRF’s spy franchise. The weak writing, overblown action, and style-over-substance execution turn this potential blockbuster into a missed opportunity. It’s a shadow of the original War, with the hype far outpacing the final product. Watch it only if you’re a die-hard fan of Hrithik or NTR. Everyone else can wait for streaming.”
